Animation

Designing for screen is about understanding the whole picture.

We believe animation shouldn’t be just about creating content. It should involve a comprehensive understanding of film production and the storytelling process it entails. That’s why we offer animation courses at Swinburne.

Animation courses are an opportunity to gain a rich understanding of animation through practical technique and the study of film/video production. We place an emphasis on the creative and analytical components of animation, as well as the principles of on-screen design.

Bradley Slabe and Andrew Goldsmith AACTA winners 440x405

Former students tug Hollywood heartstrings

Having a film shortlisted for the Oscars probably seemed like an impossible dream for Andrew Goldsmith and Bradley Slabe when they started their Bachelor of Film and Television at Swinburne. But the dream became an extremely exciting reality as their seven-minute stop-motion film, Lost & Found was shortlisted for the 2019 Academy Awards. With an AACTA for best short animation already stitched up, the pair has also been nominated for the prestigious Annie Awards. So, how did they get here? Well, that story started with a knitted dinosaur unravelling itself to save the love of its life…
